Imperial Court Shark's Fin Restaurant

Away from the city, the Hk-styled Chinese restaurant is comfortable and will be a good place to have your Chinese New Year reunion dinners

You may be more familiar with the Imperial Court restaurant as a local Chinese restaurant for Chinese New Year but for the past year, it has been serving out sumptuous authentic Hong Kong cuisine. And you can be sure that it's not just the Dim Sum that is delectable.

The new chef impresses us with his culinary skills in authentic Hong Kong cuisine . We hear he cooks everything including all the sauces himself in the restaurant. We really like his Boiled Superior Shark Fins with Fish Maw soup , Baked Perch Fish and the really unique Sauteed Pork Cheek Lily Bulb .

The shark fins used in his soup is really one of the best. Served for one in a small claypot dish, the broth boasts a generous serving of fins that are textured and thick. It is really good especially when you are eating it, the shreds of springing shark fins loosens and splits when you bite it. It is really quality shark fins we are having with a broth boiled from fish maw. You can't see any of the fish maw left but the soup brims with fish maw flavour albeit looking a tad drab.

The Baked Perch Fish dished up in true HK style is really unique. Baked but still soft and fresh on the inside, the Perch is succulent sweet even without the sauce prepared by the chef.

I think the dish that really is unraveled here is the Sauteed Pork Cheek with Lily Bulb . Not exactly an expensive dish, the dish is really difficult to cook well and I haven't exactly seen it in restaurants served here. The pork cheek cuts is often lined with fats so it is really difficult when frying it with the leaner parts. Here, the pork is delectably springy and really delicious when you bite into the savoury leaner parts. Slightly salty, the lily bulb brings out the aroma. It's really scrumptious! Kudos to the chef for being brave and getting it right too.

Also, don't forget the dim sums, the Har Gao (shrimp dumplings) we are having has a whole succulent prawn in there. We are a little lost for words. The sesame seed balls are a mix of savoury and sweet with hot sesame paste flowing out when you bite its crunchy shell.

Away from the city at the Grassroots Club, the palatial restaurant is comfortable and will be a good place to have your Chinese New Year reunion dinners. Ask for the rooms if you want some privacy. On normal days, the restaurant also serves buffet dishes with 27 of them to choose from.
