What do you look for in your player?
How do you balance that value to cost factor?
Do you go for branded players or china-branded players?
Do you know that even China-branded players can even be differentiated?

The most common files online are avi files. And more recently realmedia files have become popular. So any decision should be based on the following formats avi, mp4 and rm/rmvb.
You may want to consider flv files also.

How much should you pay for one of these players?

First do your research.
Check out the reviews and see your usage patten.
See the file size of the media you are going to put into your player.
If it has expansion slots, look at separating the media.
